Calix Delivers AXOS Intelligent Access Edge

Sonic Components has your Calix products

Calix announced the AXOS Intelligent Access Edge solution, giving service providers the flexibility to bring Layer 3 functionality—including MPLS routed networking—to their new or existing Layer 2 access network, drastically simplifying their architectures and reducing total cost of ownership. The offering also includes a new line card, which enables service providers to aggregate their existing Layer 2 Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) while easily reaping the benefits of a collapsed Layer 3 Access network.

The AXOS Intelligent Access Edge Solution, which is comprised of the new Advanced Routing Protocol Module (ARm), the Routing Protocol Module (RPm), the Subscriber Management Module (SMm), as well as the E9-2 Intelligent Edge System gives service providers the option of performing routing functions in their access networks with the RPm or having a full MPLS routed network with the ARm. The new [[Aggregation Services Manager]] line card for Calix’s E9-2 Intelligent Edge System runs with the ARm, providing 64 10G ports in a single system, aggregating Layer 2 OLTs, and delivering the benefits of the Layer 3 Access network. The existing Layer 2 access network is then connected to the service provider’s edge network with multiple MPLS-capable 40G/100G uplink ports.

“The AXOS Intelligent Access Edge Solution with the new Advanced Routing Protocol Module has been designed specifically to allow service providers to instantly realize the simplicity and cost advantages of software defining their access networks without undergoing a complete replacement,” said Shane Eleniak, senior VP of platforms for Calix. “The efficiency advantage from consolidating subscriber and service related functions onto the access network not only reduces operational cost but speeds time to deploy new services—both of which are key to our customers, who are tasked with delivering increasingly complex next-generation services to their subscribers.”

GPON vs XG-PON vs XGS-PON

GPON

Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) is a fixed access technology that uses fiber optic cables to provide voice, data, and video services at gigabit speeds. GPON is the leading form of Passive Optical Network (PON), and it replaces the traditional Ethernet design with a two-tier optic network. GPON uses Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM) to transmit data of different upstream/downstream wavelengths over the same ODN

10 GPON

In developed countries, nearly 85% of the population accesses the internet from home. This fact increases the need for more bandwidth.

Significantly increased bandwidth can result in slower downloads, choppy streaming, and interruptions during online activities. 10GPON technology enables consumers and businesses to avoid problems like lag and buffering.

Keep reading for a complete G PON guide and an introduction to 10GPON technology.

XGSPON

What Is XG(S)-PON?
XG(S)-PON is evolved from the existing GPON technology, the XG-PON is with the bandwidth of 10G for downstream and 2.5G for upstream, XGS-PON with the bandwidth of 10G for downstream and 10G for upstream. XGS-PON is a higher bandwidth, symmetric version of GPON. Again, the same capabilities of GPON and can co-exist on the same fiber with GPON.

Specification Differences Among GPON, XG-PON and XGS-PON

THE MAIN DIFFERENCES ARE LISTED

Ciena WaveRouter Family

Sonic Components has a lot of Ciena products

Ciena’s WaveRouter family is a line of coherent metro routers that are designed to help operators build and manage networks with optimized performanceThe family includes the WR-2, WR-7, and WR-13 models, which are intended to help operators address a range of critical use cases

After bringing to market last year WaveRouter-13, a 48Tb/s coherent metro router, Ciena’s back at it again with two new form factors—a strategic move that will enable the company to serve a wide range of customer applications. The new 12Tb/s and 24Tb/s housings provide more choices to converge the metro and expand WaveRouter’s market penetration.

We went to work to help with that. Now you can pick your WaveRouter size (12Tb/s, 24Tb/s, or 48Tb/s) and interconnecting L2 services with L3 services across multiple regions can be accomplished with the click of a mouse.

Next, let’s look at mobility and fixed access services traffic. Mobile operators are often challenged having to connect multiple metro networks together with DWDM and connecting other vendors OTN cross-connects with high-performance transponders. WaveRouter can backhaul traffic from multiple remote access services to the metro using EVPN VPLS/VPLS for enterprises and L3VPN/VRF for mobility and fixed access services.

Again, simply pick your choice of our WaveRouter and you can have all the benefits of a coordinated multi-layer approach in a single device, removing the cost of maintaining multiple devices, while reducing footprint.

Supplier Performance Risk System (SPRS)

Understanding your Supplier Performance Risk System (SPRS) is no easy task.

What is SPRS • SPRS is a web-enabled enterprise application that gathers, processes and displays data about supplier performance. • DoD’s single, authorized application to retrieve supplier performance information. • Initially presented on-time quality and delivery scores ranked by Federal Supply Class (FSC). • Modified to • Develop procurement risk analysis tools in the areas of price, item, and supplier risk; • Host the National Security System (NSS) Class Determinations, Vendor Threat Mitigation assessments and NIST SP 800-171 DoD Assessments

SPRS current modules include the following • Basic and Best Value Assessment • (Quality and Delivery) • Risk assessments • Item, Price and Supplier • Market Research Tool • Supplier Surveillance Report • Enhanced Vendor Profile • Vendor Threat Mitigation (VTM) assessments/ratings • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-171 (NIST SP 800- 171) • Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)

Supplier Performance Risk System (SPRS) “…is the authoritative source to retrieve supplier and product PI [performance information] assessments for the DoD [Department of Defense] acquisition community to use in identifying, assessing, and monitoring unclassified performance.” (DoDI 5000.79)

SPRS supports DoD Acquisition Professionals with meeting acquisition regulatory and policy requirements by providing:

  • On-time delivery scores and quality classifications (DFARS 213.106-2)
  • Price, Item and Supplier procurement risk data and assessments
  • Company exclusion status (debarments, suspensions, etc.)
  • NIST SP 800-171 Assessment results
  • National Security System Restricted List
  • Supply chain illumination
